Solar PV

Solar PV

Solar PV (Photovoltaic panels) provide a clean and sustainable power source by harnessing the sun’s energy to generate electricity. This electricity can be used in the home or fed back into the grid, reducing carbon emissions. There is a generous feed in tariff which is a government incentive to go green. Heppelthwaite the Red  Van Plumbers have a specialist division for Renewable Energy and have been installing Solar systems for many years. For a free quotation or advice please feel free to contact us. Heppelthwaite (Green Building Solutions) cover a large part of South East England, we are based in Bourne End, near High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. Call 01628 533 550 or book online.

How Solar PV works

Solar panels generate electricity using the light energy (not the heat energy) from the sun. The panels produce energy from daylight – it doesn’t have to be direct sunlight – so they still produce energy on cloudy or overcast days.

An inverter then converts the electricity from DC to AC, for use in the home. The electricity produced is either used directly in the home, or when the system is producing more power than required, is exported to the grid. At night or at other times when more energy is required, power is supplied from the grid in the normal way.

Benefits of Solar PV

  • Generate your own clean and renewable Electricity
  • Receive a tax free, index linked income for all the electricity you product, whether you use it or not.
  • Receive a 7-10% return on your investment, guaranteed for 25 years through the Government ‘Feed in Tariff’ Scheme (FITs)
  • Sell back any electricity you don’t use to your electrical supplier and receive further paybacks.
  • Help support the UK’s carbon reduction targets and reduce your own carbon footprint.
  • Requires almost no maintenance, with panels guaranteed for 25 years.
  • Protection from fluctuating Energy Prices
  • Easy to install on most buildings with no planning restrictions*
  • Minor planning restrictions apply to conservation areas, listed building etc.

Government Incentives – What is the Feed In Tafiff?

The feed in tariff is a Government scheme to encourage more people to generate their own electricity by using renewable energy solutions. The upfront costs of going green is sometimes a barrier with high up front costs, so this Government scheme creates an opportunity for everyone to become electricity generators by providing a cash back incentive.

The Feed-in Tariff (FIT) guarantees you a minimum payment for each unit of electricity you generate, this ensures that anybody investing into eligible technologies will receive money that should cover the cost of the system purchase, and in many cases generate further funds that exceeds this cost.

The scheme last’s for 20 years with the below technologies eligible for FITs:

  • Wind
  • Solar photovoltaics (PV)
  • Hydro
  • Anaerobic digestion
  • Domestic scale microCHP (with a capacity of 2kW or less)
