The Evans Group – 70th Year Anniversary
2018 marks the 70th year anniversary for the Evans Group, a family run plumbing and heating company spanning 3 generations of the same family. Over the decades, throughout the property booms and also the crashes, the Evans Group has successfully adapted to the industry. It has seized every opportunity to evolve and remain an active and innovative partner for its new build developer and commercial clients, as well as serving thousands of homeowners, landlords and tenants within the local community.
History overview
The family run business, established by Ray Evans in 1948, has gone to great lengths to stay current and relevant. Ray Evans started out as a local plumber working in Burnham, Berkshire. After several years Ray received an opportunity to provide services for a new build developer, Laing Homes and this was to be a major turning point.
By 1978 R.G.Evans had grown into a small plumbing and heating business providing specialist services to a portfolio of new build developer clients. R.G.Evans became a limited company operating across Buckinghamshire and Berkshire with a team of 5 employees, which included Ray’s 2 sons Martyn and Andrew.
In 1987 Martyn Evans took over R.G.Evans from his father, and further developed the company with the support of his brother Andy and loyal staff. The company continued to grow through building positive working relationships with existing clients and gaining new clients through its well-founded reputation.
By 2000 R.G.Evans had set up a design company called Evans Design, which would support the clients of R.G.Evans with pre-contract designs and blueprints.
It was in 2009 J.F.Heppelthwaite became a part of the Evans Group to provide dedicated aftercare services to the groups new build developer clients. Gary Evans, a 3rd generation family member of the Evans family and son of Martyn Evans, became Managing Director of Heppelthwaite, with Catherine Heppelthwaite, the original owner becoming Operations Manager and she remains an invaluable part of the company.
Heppelthwaite, now known as Heppelthwaite the Red Van Plumbers, has continued to provide a comprehensive range of domestic and commercial plumbing and heating services to thousands of homeowners, landlords and tenants, as well as schools, hospitals, care homes and housing associations. It also established a specialist division, called Heppelthwaite Green Building Solutions, focused on leading the way in renewable energy services.

Today, the Evans Group comprises of 4 divisions, each specialising in different areas of plumbing, heating and renewable energy. The group has grown in size with approximately 65 directly employed installers and staff. It has an impressive portfolio of clients and is a multiple award winning business.
