Heat Pump Installation & Services

Red Van Plumbers installs both air source and ground source heat pumps for homes and businesses across Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and surrounding areas. The right system depends on your property, available outdoor space, insulation, heating requirements and budget. Our renewable energy team can assess your property and recommend the most suitable option.

Air Source Heat Pumps

Air source heat pumps take heat from the outside air and use it to provide heating and hot water for your home.

They are suitable for many UK properties and can be a practical replacement for gas, oil or LPG heating systems.

Air source systems generally require less space and are simpler to install than ground source heat pumps.

Ground Source Heat Pumps

Ground source heat pumps extract stored heat from the ground using underground pipework. They can provide highly efficient heating and hot water throughout the year.

They require more outdoor space and a more involved installation than air source systems, but can be an excellent option for suitable larger or rural properties.

What Are Heat Pumps?

Heat pumps work by transferring heat from one place to another. They can extract heat from the air or ground outside and bring it into your home. This renewable heating method is highly efficient, often providing more heat than the electricity used to power them. With their ability to also provide cooling during the warmer months, heat pumps offer an all-in-one heating and cooling solution.

By using renewable energy, heat pumps can reduce your carbon footprint and lower your energy bills. They are a smart choice for homeowners looking to switch to more sustainable heating options.

Benefits of Installing a Heat Pump

  • Energy-efficient: Heat pumps use renewable energy, reducing your reliance on traditional heating sources.
  • Cost-effective: While the initial investment may be higher, heat pumps can lead to significant savings on your energy bills.
  • Eco-friendly: Reduce your carbon footprint and contribute to a greener future by choosing renewable energy.
  • All-year-round: Heat pumps offer heating even in colder climates.

How much do heat pumps cost to install?

The installation cost for heat pumps can vary depending on the type (air source or ground source) and the size of the system. Generally, air source heat pumps are more affordable to install, while ground source systems involve higher upfront costs but offer long-term savings.

Are heat pumps suitable for every home?

Heat pumps are suitable for most homes, but they are particularly effective in properties with good insulation. It’s important to consider the size of your property and your heating needs when choosing the right type of heat pump.

Heat Pump Grants Up To £9,000

Take advantage of the Government’s Boiler Upgrade Scheme, which provides financial support towards eligible heat pump installations.

Air source and ground source heat pump installations for homes currently heated by mains gas can receive a £7,500 grant. If your property is off the gas grid and currently heated by oil or LPG, you can apply for the increased £9,000 grant (although this increase ends March 2027).

The scheme can significantly reduce the upfront cost of switching to a heat pump, making renewable heating more accessible for homeowners looking to move away from gas, oil or LPG.

As an MCS-certified installer, Red Van Plumbers can assess your property, explain which grant may apply and manage the application process on your behalf.
