Common Boiler Faults
Modern boilers are designed to be reliable, but there is still a risk that something can go wrong at any time. Different types of boilers can exhibit a range of issues, with some of the most common including frozen condensation pipes, boiler leaks, low boiler pressure, or hot water but no heating. These problems can all be fixed by an accredited engineer, but you can save yourself a considerable amount of time and money by conducting annual checks on your boiler or heater.
The boiler industry will see a big spike in boiler repair services in winter months when most boilers are switched back on after being off over the warmer summer months.
Common boiler faults
The most common boiler faults are:
- No hot water or heating
- Pressure issues
- Boiler switching off
- Strange or loud noises
- Leaky boilers
- Pilot lights gone out
- Faulty thermostat
- Radiators not getting hot
It’s not always possible to determine exactly what is causing the problem without physically examining the boiler. However, knowing what the symptoms are would help identify the possible fault and boiler repair solution. Does your boiler show a fault code?

DIY Boiler Repair. DON’T RISK IT
The Gas Safe authority surveyed 2,000 home owners and of those who have had gas work carried out in 2018, more than 1 in 4 (28%) didn’t even think about checking that the engineer was legal and on the Gas Safe Register. 1 in 6 even went on to admit that they would knowingly employ an illegal gas fitter if they came recommended. These are worrying statistics. Furthemore, 9 in 10 illegal gas jobs were not completed to the required standard, and one in five jobs were so dangerous their investigations officers had to switch the appliance off. Discover more
