What is a Wet Room?

A wet room is a fully waterproof room with integrated shower. The room itself acts as a large shower enclosure. A drain is integrated in to the tiled floor, meaning water gently flows away (removing the need for a shower tray or bath).

Wet rooms are “tanked”, meaning they sufficiently waterproofed to protect buildings containing wet rooms from any moisture migration.

Wet Room Benefits

Wet rooms are very popular with those wanting increased luxury from a new bathroom installation. Open plan space is contemporary and aesthetically pleasing, whilst wet rooms are fully compatible with modern heating systems like underfloor heating. Flooring can be either tiled or wooden, meaning many styling options are available. Total flexibilty in design is also available for those wanting a wet room in their home; the shower area isn’t determined by the available shower trays or cubicles, resulting in more freedom and space.

Considerations

When deciding upon a wet room, a few points need to be considered. A wet room can be any size, without limitation. You should decide where you would like the shower section located, what style of tiling or wood finish you would like, and whether you’d like underfloor heating or conventional radiators. Fittings should also be considered; shower head style, basin style, glass screens (if any), baths (we recommend a separate free-standing bath), grab rails, seating, heated towel rails, etc.
