The Installation
Our engineers installed a Grant Aerona R290 9kW air source heat pump, together with the controls and components required for the new heating system. The installation included a Grant Aerona R290 Smart Controller Kit, manufacturer’s installation pack and an Inta 50-litre buffer vessel. A 300-litre Grant QR twin coil cylinder was installed for domestic hot water, while a Grant Mag One magnetic filter provides additional system protection. The heat pump was integrated with the property’s underfloor heating to provide heating throughout the home.

Air Source Heat Pumps and Underfloor Heating
An important part of this installation was that the customer has underfloor heating. Air source heat pumps and underfloor heating can work particularly well together. Underfloor heating distributes warmth across a large surface area and can operate effectively at the lower water temperatures commonly associated with heat pump systems. This can make underfloor heating a particularly suitable way of distributing heat from an air source heat pump. Rather than relying on very hot radiators, warmth is distributed gradually and evenly through the floor.
A property does not need underfloor heating to have a heat pump as correctly sized radiators can also be used. However, where underfloor heating is already installed or forms part of a renovation or new heating system, it can be an excellent match for heat pump technology.
