Vaillant Regular Boiler

A Vaillant regular boiler, also known as an open vent boiler, works alongside a separate hot water cylinder and cold water storage tanks to deliver central heating and hot water throughout your home. For properties with existing traditional heating systems, a regular boiler is often the most practical and cost-effective replacement option.

As accredited Vaillant installers, our Gas Safe registered engineers fit the full Vaillant regular boiler range and will recommend the right model for your property and heating setup.

What Is a Vaillant Regular Boiler?

A regular boiler, sometimes called a heat only boiler or open vent boiler, works differently to a combi. Rather than heating water on demand from the mains, it heats water and stores it in a cylinder ready for use. Cold water is fed from tanks typically located in the loft.

This makes a regular boiler well suited to larger homes with multiple bathrooms where several people need hot water at the same time. Because hot water is stored rather than produced on demand, a regular boiler can supply several outlets simultaneously without any drop in flow or temperature. If you are unsure whether a regular, system or combi boiler is best for your home, our engineers can advise before any work is booked.

The Vaillant Regular Boiler Range

Vaillant is one of the UK’s most recognised boiler manufacturers and has consistently been regarded as a leading name in gas heating. Their regular boiler range covers two models, each suited to different property sizes and requirements. Both are A rated for efficiency.

Vaillant ecoTEC Plus Open Vent

The ecoTEC plus open vent is Vaillant’s high performance regular boiler, designed to meet the demands of a wide range of homes and lifestyles. Its modulating burner can drop to 16% of its maximum output when full power is not needed, which helps reduce fuel consumption and running costs.

Available outputs: 12kW, 15kW, 18kW, 24kW, 28kW and 35kW

Key features:

  • A rated efficiency with aluminium heat exchanger for reliable long term performance
  • Backlit display for straightforward day to day operation
  • Rear flue option available for flexible installation positioning
  • Compatible with myVAILLANT connect internet gateway for smart heating control
  • Suitable for use in cascade for larger properties and commercial applications
  • Standard 5 year guarantee, extendable to up to 10 years when installed by an accredited myREWARDS installer with the correct filter registered

Vaillant ecoFIT Pure Open Vent

The ecoFIT pure is Vaillant’s compact regular boiler option, designed to fit into a standard kitchen cupboard. It is lightweight and efficient, with a rear flue option available for flexible positioning. A practical and reliable choice for homes where space around the boiler is limited.

Available outputs: 15kW, 18kW and 25kW

Key features:

  • A rated for both heating and hot water efficiency
  • Powerful aluminium heat exchanger for consistent performance
  • Hand-built in Vaillant’s award-winning Derbyshire manufacturing plant
  • Rear flue option available for flexible positioning
  • Standard 2 year guarantee, extendable to up to 10 years with an accredited myREWARDS installer and correct filter

The ecoFIT pure is also available as a combi and system boiler. Visit our Vaillant combi boilers and Vaillant system boilers pages for more detail.

Is a Vaillant Regular Boiler Right for Your Home?

A regular boiler works well in many homes, but it is not the right choice for every property. Here is a straightforward guide.

A Vaillant regular boiler is likely to be a good fit if:

  • The property already has a hot water cylinder and loft tanks in place
  • You have multiple bathrooms or high simultaneous hot water demand
  • Are replacing an existing regular boiler on a like for like basis
  • Want to keep your existing pipework layout and system

A combi or system boiler may be a better option if:

  • You want to remove the cylinder and loft tanks to free up space
  • Your home has one or two bathrooms with modest hot water demand
  • You are undertaking a full system replacement or renovation

If you are unsure which type suits your home, our engineers will assess the property and give you honest advice. Visit our main Vaillant boilers page for an overview of all three types, or read our boiler installation guide for more detail.

Replacing an Existing Regular Boiler

Many older properties across Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and South East England still run on back boilers or ageing open vent systems. These systems are often inefficient, unreliable and increasingly difficult to source parts for.

Replacing an existing regular boiler with a modern Vaillant ecoTEC plus or ecoFIT pure is often a straightforward like for like swap that uses the existing cylinder and pipework. In most cases, the new boiler will be significantly more efficient than the system it replaces, reducing both fuel consumption and running costs.

Before any installation, our engineers will inspect the existing system, check the cylinder condition and assess whether a powerflush is needed to protect the new boiler. Find out more about our central heating powerflush service.

Vaillant Regular Boiler Guarantees

The ecoTEC plus open vent comes with a standard 5 year guarantee. The ecoFIT pure open vent comes with a standard 2 year guarantee. Both models can be extended to up to 10 years when installed by an accredited myREWARDS installer and registered with the correct Vaillant boiler protection kit or filter.

As accredited Vaillant installers, we register your boiler and guarantee directly with Vaillant as part of the installation process.

FAQs – Vaillant Regular Boilers

We offer a complete range of boiler and heating services across Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, West London, Oxfordshire and surrounding counties. Here are some frequently asked questions about Vaillant Regular Boilers.

What is the difference between a regular boiler and a combi boiler?

A regular boiler works alongside a hot water cylinder and cold water storage tanks. It stores heated water ready for use and can supply multiple outlets simultaneously. A combi boiler heats water on demand directly from the mains without a cylinder. A regular boiler suits larger homes with multiple bathrooms. A combi is better suited to smaller homes with one or two bathrooms.

Can I replace my old back boiler with a Vaillant regular boiler?

Yes. In many cases, an older back boiler or ageing open vent system can be replaced with a modern Vaillant ecoTEC plus or ecoFIT pure. Our engineers will assess your existing system, check the cylinder and pipework condition and recommend the most practical approach. The Wooburn Green case study on our website shows a back boiler replacement carried out by our team.

What is the difference between a regular boiler and a system boiler?

Both a regular boiler and a system boiler work with a hot water cylinder. The key difference is that a system boiler has most of the heating components built in, so it does not need cold water tanks in the loft. A regular or open vent boiler requires loft tanks. If you already have loft tanks in place, a regular boiler replacement is often the most straightforward option.

Do I need a powerflush before a new Vaillant regular boiler is installed?

Not always, but we recommend one if your existing system is more than a few years old or if there are signs of sludge in the pipework. Fitting a new boiler onto a dirty system causes premature wear and reduces efficiency. We will always assess the system first and advise accordingly.

How long does a Vaillant regular boiler installation take?

Most regular boiler replacements take between one and two days. If additional work is required, such as a powerflush, cylinder replacement or changes to the pipework layout, we will give you a clear programme before work begins.

What guarantee comes with a Vaillant regular boiler?

The ecoTEC plus open vent comes with a standard 5 year guarantee. The ecoFIT pure comes with a standard 2 year guarantee. Both can be extended to up to 10 years when installed by an accredited myREWARDS installer with the correct filter registered. We handle the registration as part of the installation.
