Worcester Wave Smart Thermostat
The Worcester Wave was one of the first smart thermostats to offer a direct, intelligent connection between your smartphone and your Worcester Bosch boiler. If you currently have a Wave installed and it is working well, you can continue to use it. However, Worcester Bosch has since introduced the Bosch EasyControl as the successor to the Wave, offering more advanced features and improved app support.
As Platinum Accredited Worcester Bosch Installers, we can advise you on whether your current Wave is performing as it should, or whether upgrading to the EasyControl makes sense for your home.

IMPORTANT: The Worcester Wave has been replaced with the Bosch EasyControl.
The information on this page is provided as a guide for existing Wave owners and those with compatible older boilers.
What Is the Worcester Wave?
The Worcester Wave is an internet-connected smart thermostat designed exclusively for compatible Worcester Bosch Greenstar boilers. It combines a room thermostat and programmable heating control in a single, wall-mounted touchscreen unit.
Rather than simply switching the boiler on and off, the Wave communicates directly with the boiler via a 2-wire EMS BUS connection. This allows it to modulate the boiler’s performance in response to real-time conditions, rather than reacting only once the temperature drops.
The Wave can also be controlled remotely using the Wave app on a smartphone or tablet, giving homeowners full control of their heating and hot water from anywhere with an internet connection.
Key Features of the Worcester Wave
The Wave introduced several features that set it apart from standard programmable thermostats at the time of its launch.
Load Compensation
The Wave continuously monitors the difference between the current room temperature and your target setting. As the room approaches the desired temperature, the boiler’s flow temperature is reduced gradually rather than switching off entirely. This reduces boiler cycling, minimises energy waste and improves comfort by avoiding temperature overshoot.
Weather Compensation
Using your property’s postcode, the Wave accesses local weather data to anticipate changes in outdoor temperature. This allows the boiler to adjust its output ahead of temperature drops, rather than reacting after the fact. Importantly, this does not require an external sensor, which keeps installation straightforward.
Home Presence Detection
The Wave app uses smartphone location to detect when occupants are at home or away. It can then adjust the heating programme accordingly, reducing energy use when the property is empty and resuming normal settings when you return.
Remote Control via App
The Wave app allows you to view and adjust your heating and hot water settings from any location. It also shows a usage chart so you can identify where savings could be made. There are no subscription fees and all app updates are provided free of charge.
Touchscreen Display
The Wave features an intuitive colour touchscreen that shows the current room temperature, your target setting and whether the heating is running efficiently. The display activates on approach and times out automatically after five minutes of inactivity.
Is the Worcester Wave Still Available?
The Worcester Wave has been discontinued as a new product and is no longer available to purchase. Worcester Bosch has replaced it with the Bosch EasyControl, which offers the same core functionality alongside improved zoning capability, a full-glass colour touchscreen and compatibility with Bosch Smart TRVs for room-by-room temperature control.
If you already have a Wave installed and it is working correctly, there is no immediate need to replace it. However, if you are experiencing issues, or if you are having a new Worcester Bosch boiler installed, the EasyControl is now the recommended smart control for your system.
Upgrading from the Wave to the EasyControl is straightforward. The EasyControl uses the same backplate and connections as the Wave, so in most cases the upgrade involves unclipping the Wave unit and fitting the EasyControl in its place.
The Bosch EasyControl: The Current Smart Thermostat for Worcester Bosch Boilers
The Bosch EasyControl is Worcester Bosch’s current smart heating control and is the natural upgrade path for Wave users. It builds on everything the Wave introduced while adding features that reflect how people now use and expect to control their heating.
Key improvements over the Wave include:
- Full-glass colour touchscreen with ambient backlighting
- Available in black or white to suit different interiors
- Zoning capability when paired with Bosch Smart TRVs
- Compatible with the Bosch EasyControl app
- Meets all four energy-saving measures under the Boiler Plus standard
- Qualifies for a system efficiency uplift under ErP guidelines
- No subscription fees
The EasyControl is compatible with a wide range of Worcester Bosch Greenstar boilers. If you are unsure whether your boiler is compatible, our engineers can check this during a visit or over the phone.

Worcester Wave Compatibility
The Wave is only compatible with specific Worcester Bosch Greenstar boilers and is not suitable for use with boilers from other manufacturers. If you are unsure whether your boiler is compatible with the Wave or the EasyControl, our team can confirm this quickly.
The Wave connects to the boiler via a 2-wire EMS BUS connection and requires a home Wi-Fi network to enable remote control and weather compensation features. If internet connectivity is lost, the Wave can still be operated manually via the touchscreen, though the timed heating programme will not function until the connection is restored.
