A Planned Commercial Heating Upgrade in High Wycombe

Community buildings are busy places. Different rooms are in use at different times and the heating system has to keep up with those demands.

When the trustees decided the existing system needed replacing, they put the work out to tender. Several local companies were invited to quote. The Red Van Plumbers won the contract.

Before any work started, our engineers visited the site, assessed the existing system and specified the right equipment for the building’s needs. Getting that groundwork right is what makes the installation straightforward.

The Heating System Installation

Two Vaillant Boilers

For a commercial building of this size, a single boiler is a risk. If it develops a fault or requires servicing, the entire building loses heating and hot water. A twin boiler setup removes that risk. By installing two Vaillant ecoTEC Plus 635 boilers, the system can continue operating on one boiler if the other requires attention. Both boilers work together during periods of high demand and independently when load is lower, which also improves overall efficiency.

Vaillant is one of the UK’s most recognised boiler manufacturers and is widely specified for both domestic and commercial heating systems. The Vaillant ecoTEC Plus range is a reliable and well-proven choice for commercial applications. Loft Plant Room Installation

Both boilers and the unvented cylinder were installed in the loft plant room. Working in a loft space presents its own set of challenges. Access is restricted, working room is limited and all pipework has to be carefully routed to meet current regulations while still allowing reasonable servicing access for the future.

Our engineers planned the full layout before installation began. The photos show a clean, well-organised plant room with neatly run pipework and both boilers and the cylinder positioned for straightforward future maintenance.

Megaflo Eco 210L Unvented Cylinder

A community building with multiple users requires a hot water system that can keep up with demand. The Megaflo Eco 210L indirect unvented cylinder provides high pressure hot water throughout the building, drawing heat from the boiler system to maintain consistent supply.

Unvented cylinders are well suited to commercial buildings because they deliver mains pressure hot water without the need for a cold water storage tank in the loft. Honeywell Evohome Zoned Heating Controls

A community building is rarely heated as a single space. Different rooms are used at different times and by different groups throughout the day and week. A single heating zone covering the whole building wastes energy and fails to meet the varied demands of the space.

The Honeywell Evohome Wi-Fi connected smart thermostat system solves this. It allows each zone to be controlled independently, so only the rooms in use are heated at any given time. Our engineers fitted three multi zone kits and twelve 15mm angle TRV heads across the building, giving precise zone by zone control throughout.

A single channel programmer was also fitted for the nursery and a programmable room stat installed in the hall, ensuring every area of the building has appropriate and independent heating control.

Additional Heating Works

As part of the wider installation, our engineers fitted a new Henrad 700×2000 compact type22 DC radiator in the reception area to improve heating performance in that space. The existing hall radiator was removed, refitted with a new lockshield and thermostatic radiator valve and reinstalled. These additional works ensured that every area of the building benefited from the upgraded heating system, not just the rooms closest to the new plant room.

The Finished Commercial Heating System Installation

The community building now has a modern, efficient heating system designed to meet its specific commercial demands. The twin Vaillant boilers provide reliable heating with built in redundancy. The Megaflo cylinder delivers consistent mains pressure hot water throughout. The Honeywell Evohome system gives the building managers independent zone control across every area of the building.

The full system powerflush and MagnaClean filter protect the new equipment and support the manufacturer warranties on both boilers. The new system has been designed to provide reliable heating, hot water and improved control across the building for years to come.
